Michael Daniel

Hailing from Martha's Vineyard, Oak Bluffs, MA, Michael Daniel is a passionate advocate for youth development through sports. A standout high school athlete, Michael was a 3-year varsity player for Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, leading the Cape and Islands in scoring during the 1980-1981 season and earning an invitation to the prestigious Top 48 in New England.

Mike pursued higher education at Fayetteville State University and the New York Institute of Technology, majoring in Sociology and Communications. Michael's dedication to community empowerment has led him to impactful roles, including serving as Director of Community Outreach and Basketball Operations for Achieve Greatness, focusing on Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Boston.

Mike created Martha’s Vineyard Boat to the Basket with the purpose of spotlighting the unique challenges faced by islanders due to their geographical isolation and limited access to essential resources. Today, this one-day basketball tournament brings together teams from Martha's Vineyard and mainland Massachusetts for a day of spirited play and important dialogue. The event, which has been held in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, serves as a platform for raising awareness about critical issues, particularly drug abuse and its impact on individuals and the community.

Mike is a key leader in the The Play4Peace Initiative, where he continues to inspire positive change through sports and community engagement. He is also a USA Basketball Certified Youth Coach, Director of the Martha's Vineyard Boat to the Basket Youth Showcase, and previously held the role of Assistant Park Director for Oak Bluffs Parks and Recreation. Mike is currently Athletic Director at the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club
